Sofa removal in London costs roughly £45 to £110 per item depending on size — a 2-seater at the low end, a big corner unit at the top (our 2026 estimates; exact price from a WhatsApp photo). NV Waste collects the same day across South West London with a two-man team, and every part of the lift is included: down the stairs, out of the flat, onto the van. No dragging it to the kerb yourself. No three-week booking slot.

London sofa & furniture removal prices (per item)
We price per item, not by vague "load size", so you know what a single sofa actually costs before you book. Here's the guide.
Item | Guide price (2026 estimate) |
|---|---|
Armchair | £30–£45 |
2-seater sofa | £45–£65 |
3-seater sofa | £55–£80 |
Sofa bed | £65–£90 |
Corner / L-shaped sofa | £75–£110 |
Bed frame | £40–£60 |
Wardrobe (dismantled or whole) | £45–£70 |
Our own prices, updated for 2026. For a firm figure, WhatsApp a photo — we quote before you commit.

Every price above includes the bit competitors quietly leave out: labour, stairs, the van and licensed disposal. So a 3-seater stuck in a top-floor Victorian conversion costs you the same whether it's on the ground floor or three flights up. Plenty of "sofa removal service" listings show a headline figure, then add a stairs charge or a per-flight fee on the day. We don't.
Getting rid of a mattress too? That's a separate waste stream with its own rules — see our guide to getting rid of a mattress in London. Clearing a whole room rather than a single item? A volume-based man and van rubbish removal service may work out cheaper than pricing each piece.

How our sofa collection works
Three steps, and the heavy part is on us.
Send a photo or call. WhatsApp a picture of the sofa and tell us the floor it's on. You get a fixed price back — not a "from" figure that balloons on the doorstep.
We book you a slot. Book before midday and same-day collection is usually on for that afternoon, anywhere within about three miles of our Clapham base.
Two of us collect it — from wherever it sits. Top-floor flat, back bedroom, narrow hallway. You point, we lift, we load.
We're a registered Environment Agency waste carrier, and you get a waste transfer note for the collection. That's your proof the sofa was handled legally — which, as the duty-of-care section below explains, is a document worth having.

How to dispose of a sofa in London — all your options
There are four honest routes for an old sofa or couch, and the right one depends on the fire-safety label and how fast you need it gone.
Route | Cost | Wait | Enters the property? |
|---|---|---|---|
Charity collection | Free | Often a week or two, depending on area | No — usually kerbside/doorstep |
Council bulky waste | Free–£36 in some boroughs (2026) | A slot from available dates | No — kerbside only |
Retailer take-back (e.g. DFS) | From ~£129 for up to 3 items (2026 estimate — confirm on DFS's page) | On new-sofa delivery day | Yes, but purchase-time only |
Private removal (us) | £45–£110 per item | Same day | Yes — from any room or floor |
A charity is the greenest option if your sofa still has its permanent fire-safety label and no rips or stains — but that label is where most people come unstuck. The council is cheap or free but strictly kerbside. Retailer take-back only exists if you're buying a replacement. And if you need it gone today, from a third-floor flat, without hauling it down yourself — that's us.
Why charities keep refusing sofas — the fire-label rule
If the British Heart Foundation, Emmaus or Sue Ryder turned your sofa down, this is almost always why. Under the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, anyone supplying second-hand upholstered furniture in the course of business — charities included — can't legally resell a sofa, armchair or upholstered chair without its permanent fire-safety label attached (Business Companion guidance).
That's the permanent compliance label — the green-edged one sewn into the frame or under a cushion — not the temporary swing tag that came off in the shop. No label, no resale, no matter how clean the sofa is. Lambeth's own reuse page says it plainly: sofas, mattresses and upholstered chairs "must have a fire safety label" to be collected free for reuse (Lambeth furniture reuse). If yours has been cut off or worn away, the charity route is closed — and it's council or private removal from there.
Council sofa collection vs private removal
Councils will take a sofa, but the deal has changed for 2026 and it's very borough-specific.
Lambeth charges £36 for up to 3 items (£70 for up to 6, £116 for up to 10), and it's free for council housing-estate residents (Lambeth bulky waste).
Wandsworth now gives every household two free bulky collections a year (up to 4 items each); beyond that it's £24.90 for up to 4 items plus £11.10 per extra (Wandsworth bulky waste).
We'll be straight with you: if you can wait and get it to the kerb, the council is hard to beat on price (2026 figures — confirm on your own council's page). The catch is in the fine print. Councils won't come inside. Wandsworth states it "cannot collect items from inside your property" — the sofa has to be in the front garden or on the pavement by 6:30pm the night before. Lambeth is the same. So a top-floor flat means you, and probably a neighbour, wrestling a corner sofa down the stairs first. Booking runs off whatever dates are free rather than a fixed lead time, so it can be a week or more.
That kerbside line is the real difference. We carry it out from the lounge, the same day. You pay for the convenience; you don't pay in a bad back. Same-day sofa removal across South West London
We're based in Clapham, so most of SW London is a short run for the van. Searching "sofa removal near me" from any of these? You're in our patch:
Balham
Wandsworth
Tooting
Brixton
Streatham
Earlsfield
Stockwell
Vauxhall

We know the streets, which matters more than it sounds. Victorian conversions with tight half-landings, third-floor flats with no lift, permit-parking bays where the van can only stop for so long — that's the daily job here, not an exception. Same-day sofa collection sits alongside our wider rubbish removal in Clapham and the surrounding boroughs, so we handle the awkward bits so you don't.
Book before midday and your sofa's gone this afternoon — call us or WhatsApp a photo now.
What happens to your old sofa
Reuse first, always. If a sofa is genuinely resaleable — label intact, no damage — the greenest outcome is a second home, and we'll steer it that way where we can. It's not a fringe issue. WRAP research on all bulky items taken to recycling centres found around 32% are reusable as they are, rising to roughly 51% once you allow for minor repair — so just over half needn't be scrapped at all. Furniture specifically is close to half reusable in its current condition or with slight repair, and it makes up about 42% of the 1.6 million tonnes of bulky waste UK households throw out each year (WRAP bulky waste study). A lot of it is scrapped far too soon.
What can't be reused gets stripped down — timber frames, metal springs and mechanisms recycled through the right streams, upholstery routed for the legally required POPs separation. Everything goes to a permitted facility, and you get a waste transfer note. No sofa left on the kerb, and none of it fly-tipped down a lane with your name on it.
